It was going to be easy for the Eagles anyway as the Jets were battling to overcome a terrible record of not having scored an offensive touchdown since Week 2. The scoreline showed the dominance of the Eagles defense as they scored an effortless 31-6 victory.
The Eagles fell short of the 1991 record of 11 sacks set against Dallas. They just had three from the first four games. Eagles’ Brandon Graham alone achieved that in Saturday’s match. Two Luke Falk passes were smartly intercepted with the Eagles returning one for a touchdown.
Orlando Scandrick, the veteran cornerback had two sacks but made no further gains. Scandrick, however, recovered the second and had a touchdown after taking it down 44 yards for the second defensive touchdown with just a few minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The game started out as a rout with the Eagles scoring on their first possession itself thanks to the one-yard run by on Jordan Howard. Eagles scored a TD on their opening drive for the first time this season.
Gerry’s interception on the subsequent possession resulted in a 4th and the 1 from the midfield, made it 14-0 in the closing minutes of the first quarter. Then the offensive stalling of the Eagles began.
With Sam Darnold down with mononucleosis and Falk not in great form, the Eagles were sure that there will be no Jets offense coming up.
Meanwhile, Carson Wentz was having it easy with 17 off 29 for 189 yards and also a touchdown. After some early open passes miss, Wentz failed to keep the momentum steady for the Eagles. But it was not needed anyway as the ball kept coming back to the Eagles.
The Eagles were saddled with a number of penalties that left them with a 3rd-and-30 from their 31. It invited lots of jeering. The chance to extend the lead came when Rodney McLeod intercepted Falk, giving the Eagles the ball at the Jets’ 42 with just a couple of minutes in the first half.
Jake Elliott’s field goal helped the Eagles stretch their lead further in the third quarter. There were many fumbles and reverses for the Jets and the game was over before they could recover.
